Commandment #4: You Can't Help Everyone

This one is self explanatory, simple, and logical advice. This advice is seen everywhere today, yet it is not heeded by most people. That is not to say that they don't take it; I believe there is a deeper reason as to why it is not carried out. We have been wired all our childhood, teen years, and even adulthood that we must be a good person at all costs, help people in need, and go out of our way to please others. How many times did you hear in grade school 'be a good classmate to each other, be nice, be helpful, say only nice things or don't say it at all." It is very difficult to break this cycle when we have been doing something the same way our whole life. I am not saying to do the complete opposite and turn into a straight up narcissist who only thinks of themselves. What I am saying is don't put other's needs before yours and certainly don't think you can help every single person that needs your help. There will be people that you just can't help; its as simple as that You will lose your mind doing the impossible. Emergency physicians don't save every patient, the best coaches don't win every game, the most skilled business people lose money, etc you get the point. Dr. Robert Glover does a fantastic job explaining this in his book "No More Mr. Nice Guy," which I highly recommend you take a look at. The fact of the matter is, some people just can't be helped. Don't fight it (Commandment #1) by trying to think otherwise.
